What Is The Difference Between A Manufactured Home And A Mobiehome? |

Following World War II and the subsequent downsizing of the American armed forces, servicemen and women returned to the United States by the millions. This sudden influx caused a severe housing shortage. The response was to mass produce military-style prefabricated homes inexpensively and quickly enough to keep up with rising demand. These homes were trucked in to their final destination on wheels and therefore became known as "trailers" or "mobilehomes". These early homes were not built to the same standards as today's manufactured home.
In 1976, the HUD Code developed a new set of construction and safety standards, which developed the building code for the modern manufactured home. Manufactured homes offer all of the creature comforts and modern amenities one would expect from a site built home, but at a price point that is 20 to 50 percent below comparable site-built homes.
